Self-Hosted Music Solution #121

Description

@0xlua

I wanted to replace Spotify with a self-hosted alternative for a while now. After some1 recent2 blog3 posts4 my motivation for this is renewed.

Local

Remote

Server

Navidrome

Jellyfin would be the easy choice, since I already have it set up. However Jellyfin is more suited for video content, so it could be better to have a dedicated music solution. Subsonic is the obvious choice and Navidrome seems like the most mature option here.

Music Assistant

While Navidrome would be the music source, Music Assistant is interesting because it would allow me to seamlessly resume playback on different devices. I already run Home Assistant, which integrates nicely with Music Assistant.

Clients

TUI: ostui

GUI: Feishin, or: Supersonic, Aonsoku

Music Assistant: Desktop App

Android:

Dumb speakers: RasPi with Sendspin (cli)

Yamaha AV Receiver: MusicCast support in Music Assistant

Additional Thoughts

Next to Music streaming, spotify also provides some more nice-to-have features, namely music discovery and scrobbling. I'm not sure yet, if these are essential for me, but I have to explore this more.

Scrobbling: multi-scrobbler as a self-hosted solution

Qobuz and 7digital seem like a good places to shop for music.
