When trying to build with python -m build --wheel --no-isolation I'm getting:

To mitigate the refstorage situation I've added a ~/.cargo/config.toml:

which is respected by cargo, but sadly not by maturin!

Hi, I couldn't reproduce this on Fedora 44. I also tested with an empty CARGO_HOME, forcing both Git dependencies to be fetched from scratch.

Could you share your setup and the reference format used by Git/Cargo?

?? I've neither got ~/.config/git/config nor ~/.gitconfig, only

/etc/gitconfig

with #protocol.file.allow=always

I've had just deleted ~/.cargo

BTW: I can successfully build aurox at this very moment. → nikicat/aurox#18

Cargo contains a too old embedded libgit2 to support refstorage (libgit2: 1.9.0 (sys:0.20.4 system))

rust-lang/git2-rs@c7cc1c3 was updated from 1.9.0 just 5 days ago

Is cargo from rustup better in this regard?

It seems arch builds Cargo against the system libgit2 (LIBGIT2_NO_VENDOR=1, https://gitlab.archlinux.org/archlinux/packaging/packages/rust/-/raw/main/PKGBUILD), while cargo is vendoring its copy (https://github.com/rust-lang/cargo/blob/master/Cargo.toml#L288-L293), e.g. my cargo -vV is:
