Some notes:

  • The Security Training Manual as written here is definitely not final. There is still internal discussion on how exactly the metashield should work with this new iteration of Security, this is just what I had written up at the time. Watch this space.
  • The "Administrative & Server Rule Impact" section has not been filled in yet, as I want @ferynn's input on that part of the document (given that she's an admin in addition to being the other leader of the SOP Workgroup and a major contributor to the concepts in this document). Once that section is in, I am going to undraft this document.
  • I really hope those inter-document links work. I will be very sad if they don't.

The **ME-55 pistol** (short for "Mainline Energy 2955") is a laser pistol, in a similar style to the captain's antique laser pistol, belonging to the Commandant. It's effectively a ceremonial weapon, being about as strong as an ordinary laser pistol. However, it slowly recharges when not in use.

The **SEARcH blaster** (short for "Seeking Energy Armament, Recoil High") is a bulky laser pistol belonging to the Deputy. It has decent damage and fire rate, but its poor accuracy and heavy recoil makes it only work for a "spray and pray" assault. It has an internal battery, and slowly recharges when not in use. Being a Seeking Energy Armament, it has a miniature low-detail camera attached to the underside of the barrel. This camera can detect a certain array of white stripes that translates to "DON'T SHOOT!", making the shot continue past anyone openly wearing that pattern. This pattern is now painted onto riot armour and Security hardsuits, ensuring the Deputy does not accidentally hit their subordinates in a firefight.

Cutlasses work for the moment, but I think it'd be better to transition them to less pirate themed swords over time. Making a lower budget energy sword would be good I think. Energy swords in general fit Nanotrasen's zone of production more than the Syndicate.

Deputy typo was already mentioned.

Is it planned to have a way to print this pattern "no-hit" pattern on other gear? Is it just a general prototype whitelist "ignore" thing on certain a classes of armor? A feature like this feels like it should be abusable by a prepared opposition. It certainly is a bit strong in confined fights, as that would let two people blast fire down a maints tunnel, which hurts melee ambushes.

What sort of hardsuits are the lieutenants going to be using? Are they normal hardsuits, or something that shows their rank more clearly? Even if they ultimately have the same hardsuit stats, a cosmetic difference would be good, to let enemies target them more feasibly.

Is magistrate the final word for this job? I know there's been talk about Judicial Officer or whatever too. I'm fine with magistrate as a title name, to be clear. Has nice flavor.

From earlier discussion on the name we were informed Judicial Officer could be problematic with it's most obvious abbreviation also standing for something problematic, so we went back to Magistrate. I don't know if I should really say it here as it is sexual in nature, but if you would like to know the exact thing the abbreviation stands for I can tell you in DMs. If you have another name besides Magistrate I would honestly love that because I personally feel that Magistrate is too associated with CCViP right now.

To be honest, we could just call them energy swords if the name is too cartoonish or whatever. I spoke to Tea about this stuff and they were planning to give them cutlass style hilts, so they're definitely going to be cutlasses if form if not by name. I think that direction makes sense: It's a blade that's been used by mercenaries, naval forces, and even the London police (albeit never in a lethal capacity), so it feels thematically cohesive.

I didn't have this planned (with the counter in my head being the theft of Security armour), but that might be a good idea. I'm not going to put anything down just yet but I'm going to think about how that can work.

As mentioned in the document, lieutenants have slightly slower and tougher hardsuits to make them the "anchors" that their subordinates have to position themselves around. And yeah, this should be visually distinctive, I'll make a note of that in the doc.

Yeah, what funkycmm said. I'm open to alternate titles if you would prefer, we should just avoid doing one that abbreviates to anything vulgar.
