Cassie Simonich, MD, PhD is a Pediatric Infectious Diseases Fellow at Seattle Children’s Hospital. In the Bloom Lab, she studies the antigenic evolution of Respiratory Syncytial Virus.
Cassie studies RSV evolution and immunity, and how these inform strategies to prevent RSV disease.
She developed a pseudovirus neutralization assay for RSV and uses this non-replicating pseudovirus system for deep mutational scanning of the fusion (F) protein to safely study how mutations affect antibody neutralization.
Her goal is to use these findings to inform genomic surveillance efforts and help guide monoclonal antibody and vaccine strategies against RSV.
She is supported by a Burroughs Wellcome Fund Career Award for Medical Scientists (CAMS).
